Language is so much part of who we are, that often we use it without thinking about it too much.
So, we use and repeat expressions and ways of saying that we learnt as children and young adults, without questioning what exactly the meaning is.
As a result, we may reinforce and transfer biases and stereotypes. Related to gender (as this TedX speech covers), but also to age, ability, orientation, culture, ethnics, etc.
